Spain Allocates €20.3 Million for Rehabilitation of Its National Heritage Properties

A sum of €20.3 million will be invested this year in Spain, the rehabilitation of National Heritage properties located in the Community of Madrid, including the provinces of Segovia and Cáceres and the city of Palma, according to the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism.

The Ministry has revealed the investment upon an agreement in this regard authorized on November 22, by the Council of Ministers, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“With this agreement, we continue the collaboration that began last year with National Heritage to strengthen the tourist attraction of Spain and the richness of its destinations by improving its heritage assets, whose historical and artistic value represent a powerful magnet for attracting visitors,” the Minister of the Department, Reyes Maroto pointed out in this regard.

The Minister also added that through this investment it will be possible to intervene in some of the most emblematic touristic assets of the Spanish heritage which attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, and renovate them.

As the Ministry explains, Spain has decided to invest in the restoration of the Villanueva tunnel in Campo del Moro €415,000 and the restoration of the Aranjuez Pavilion Garden €840,000.

At the same time, the country will allocate an amount of €455,000 for the museumization of the gardens of Aranjuez, and it will also restore the Royal Felucca Museum of Aranjuez with €2,735,000 euros.

The restoration and museumization of the Felipe II rooms of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez for temporary exhibitions will be completed with €200,000 and the opening of the Interpretation Center of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial with €300,000.

In addition, the Ministry also revealed that it will donate €2,400,000 for the restoration of the Museum of Architecture and Painting, the Halls of Honor, and the entrances of the Royal Monastery of El Escorial. Meanwhile, it will grant €5,985,000 for the restoration of the La Cascada fountain in the gardens of La Granja.

Based on the agreement, the Plan of Recovery, Transformation, and Resistance in the National Heritage includes six other interventions as below:

  • Museumization of the gardens of La Granja – €455,000
  • Interpretation Center of the sources of La Granja – €325,000
  • Conditioning of the Hunting Museum as an Interpretation Center of the natural spaces of the National Heritage in the Riofrío Palace – €1,990,000
  • Musealization and adaptation of the Visitor Reception Center of the Royal Palace of La Almudaina in Palma de Mallorca – €1,640,000
  • Expansion of spaces to improve the visit to the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste – €2,000,000
  • Adaptation of the Visitor Reception Center in the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste – €560,000

Moreover, the Ministry said that all these actions must be completed before the end of the second quarter of 2026. It added that the cooperation between Tourism and National Heritage began last year for which €4,997,200 were transferred to National Heritage for the recovery and restoration of tourist sites connected to the Camino de Santiago located in Burgos.
