Number of Tourist Overnight Stays in Germany Increased by 2.7 % in October

A total of 2.7 per cent increase was marked in the number of overnight stays in Germany in October this year, compared to the figures of the same month last year, the data provided by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) has revealed.

However, the figures continue to remain below three per cent compared to the number of overnight stays registered in October 2019, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

The data provided by Destatis show that in December 2021, there were registered a total of 17.5 million overnight stays in accommodation establishments in Germany, or a notable surge compared to the same period 2020 figures, during which month there were recorded only 6.7 million overnight stays, but still below pre-pandemic levels (30.9 million).

There were registered over 24.6 million overnight stays in November 2021, which is a notable improvement compared to just 9.3 million registered in the same month in 2020 but still far below 2019 figures during which period there were registered a total of 32.4 million overnight stays in accommodation establishments.

In comparison to November 2021 figures, the number of overnight stays registered in October this year was significantly higher or a total of 44.3 million. At the same time, it was reported that in October last year there were recorded 43.2 million, in 2020, a total of 33.2 million, while in 2019 45,6 million.

The data provided by Destatis shows that in September this year, the number of overnight stays registered was 47.2 million, in 2021, 45.3 million in 2020, and 41.1 million and in 2019 47.8 million.

According to a previous report of Destatis, in August as of, 53 per cent of arrivals were accommodated in hotels and guesthouses, while more than 23 per cent were vacation rentals and other accommodation establishments.

“A very strong increase was registered in overnight stays by guests from abroad, according to statistics. They increased by 75.7 per cent to 8.9 million. Cross-border tourism in Germany is still a long way from the pre-crisis level,” the figures provided by the Federal Statistics Office revealed.

However, the figures were down by 17.5 per cent from August pre-pandemic. At the same time, the number of domestic visitors increased by 4.8 per cent.

According to a report by Stripes Europe, the top five favourite cities to visit in Germany in winter are the following: Berlin, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Nuremberg, Baden-Baden, and Aachen.
