KTO hosts forum seeking ways to revitalize local MICE industry

This year’s forum was open not only to related associations, academia and MICE industry officials, but local citizens interested in the discussion could participate as well.

The Korea Tourism Organization held a ‘MICE Industry Revitalization Forum’ last week at the Commodore Hotel in Busan, together with the Office of Representative Hwangbo Seung-hee of the National Assembly’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee and Busan Metropolitan City.

With active promotion currently taking place to attract the 2030 World Expo to Busan, this joint forum between the public and private sectors seeks to explore ways to revitalize the MICE industry in connection with the 2030 Busan World Expo bidding efforts, and to strengthen the competitiveness of the MICE industry in Busan and Korea’s southeast regions.

Presentations were given by Professor Yeo Hokeun (Dong-Eui University, Division of Hotel and Tourism Management) and Jung Kwang-Min (Research Fellow, Korea Culture and Tourism Institute). The panel was comprised of Kwon Jong Sool (Executive Director of Korea MICE Bureau), Ku Cheol-mun (MICE industry division, Busan Metropolitan City), Kwak Myung-Seob (The Busan Daily News), and Lee Bong Soon (The Korean Association of Professional Convention Organizers)

This year’s forum was open not only to related associations, academia and MICE industry officials, but local citizens interested in the discussion could participate as well.

Lee Younggeun, Director of the MICE Planning & Management Team at Korea MICE Bureau, stated, “This forum serves as an important venue to garner interest and participation for the 2030 Busan World Expo from the local government and the MICE industry, while at the same time seeking ways to grow the local MICE tourism industry post-COVID-19.”
