Number of Hungarian Tourists That Visited Croatia Last Year Close to Pre-Pandemic Levels

Compared to 2021, almost a third more Hungarians have travelled to Croatia last year, which means that these recorded figures are close to those marked in the record year of 2019.

In this regard, the Director of the representation of the Croatian National Tourist Board in Hungary, Ivana Herceg, emphasised that during the year 2022, 602,000 Hungarian tourists had spent three million guest nights in Croatia, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

According to these figures, 31 per cent more guests spent the nights last year and 21 per cent more guest nights compared to 2021.

As reported by the Budapest Times, the data shows that the figure are close to the record year of 2019 in terms of the number of guests and the number of guest nights, both of which are only seven per cent fewer.

Among the most popular regions that Hungarian citizens have visited in Hungary is Kvarner Bay, where 850,000 guest nights have been spent. At the same time, 605,000 women visited the Istrian peninsula and 538,000 the Split-Dalmatian region.

Meanwhile, as regards settlements, Hungarians registered 167,000 guest nights in Crikvenica, 166,000 in Vir, and 106,000 in Rovinj.

As in other years, in 2022, Hungarian guests spent most of their guest nights with more than 50 per cent in private accommodations.

Moreover, the latest data provided by Croatia’s National Board of Tourism revealed that a total of 18.9 million passengers from other countries visited Croatia in 2022, marking 104.8 million overnight stays.

The same source said that last year there was a significant increase in the number of beds compared to the figures for 2021.

The data of Croatia’s National Board of Tourism further show that during the first nine months of 2022, the income from international visitors to the country reached 11.6 billion euros, which means an increase of 23 per cent compared to the levels before the pandemic.

Based on the data provided by eVisitor as well as eCrew systems, tourist arrivals increased by 37 per cent in 2022, while overnight stays also marked a significant increase, or 25 per cent, compared to the figures recorded in 2021.

The largest tourist traffic in Croatia during 2022 was achieved mostly by the arrivals of international visitors, with a total of 92.3 million overnight stays, followed by local tourists, with 12.5 million overnight stays.
