Irish Tourists Choose Greek Islands as One of Their Top 10 Holiday Destinations This Year
The Irish Independent’s Reader Travel Awards has chosen the Greek islands as one of the top ten Fly ‘N’ Flop destinations for Irish travellers this year.
According to Greek Travel Pages, the Greek islands were ranked sixth in Ireland’s top ten Fly ‘N’ Flop destinations. At the same time, Lanzarote, which is the largest Canary Island, won first place, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
In this regard, the Irish Independent newspaper said that Lanzarote has been a popular holiday destination for Irish travellers for a very long time as it is preferred especially for its easy access because it has good weather, the ideal combination of sun and sea and value for money accommodation and dining options.

- Costa del Sol, Spain
- Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain
- Majorca, Spain
- Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain

- Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain
Only recently, the Greek islands of Crete, Rhodes, Santorini and Zakynthos were included in multiple Trip Advisor’s Travellers’ Choice 2023 Best Destinations Best Value lists.
Previously, the general satisfaction index has shown that Greece remains one of the main preferred destinations for tourists worldwide, pointing out that in the first 11 months of last year, Greece has accumulated a rate of 87 per cent in terms of the satisfaction index, followed by Cyprus with 85.6 per cent.
Last October, readers of Condé Nast Traveller magazine ranked Greece in sixth position in terms of the best travel destinations for 2022. In the readers’ choice price list, Greece, therefore, took the sixth place with a score of 89.97, ahead of Denmark and the United Kingdom.
In the same month, at the European Gala ceremony of the World Travel Awards 2022, Greece also received numerous honours. During the 29th edition of the World Travel Awards, also known as the Oscars of Tourism, it was considered the main destination of sustainable tourism in Europe.
Regardless of the many problems, last year was an unprecedented success for Greece, ending with 31 million passengers registered at regional airports.
Commenting on these data, the Greek Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, emphasised that the figures recorded last year show a more significant figure than the one recorded in 2019. He also added that these figures confirmed the success of the tourism industry in 2022 and strengthened the national economy.
