February 8, 2024 – $2 Million Investment Coming to Los Cabos to Improve Safety

The Baja California Sur state has allocated $2 million (approximately 36 million Mexican pesos) to enhance the emergency response and law enforcement capabilities in Los Cabos. This investment, the first significant influx of funds into the Control, Command, Communication, and Computing Center (C4) since its inception, aims to bolster tourist safety in this popular beach resort area.

Secretary of Public Security, Luis Alfredo Cancino Vicente, highlighted the importance of this investment for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency services, including the handling of emergency calls. The funding will be used to establish a modern dispatch and surveillance center, capable of managing incoming 911 and 089 calls, and to create a strategic collaboration space for federal, state, and municipal government levels to address incidents affecting both locals and visitors.

According to the latest data from the Los Cabos Tourism Observatory, the perception of safety increased by 0.6 percentage points compared to June 2022, a month in which it had decreased by 9.5 percentage points.

Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, director of FITURCA, reported that these results go hand in hand with the studies conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

Based on the National Urban Public Safety Survey (ENSU), which refers to the second quarter of 2023, it was found that 75% of residents of the municipality consider the tourist destination safe.
