France Remains Top Destination for Moroccan & Algerian Schengen Visa Applicants

Moroccans and Algerians have remained the top two nationalities that filed the most requests for visas in France in 2023.

Moroccans have submitted 310,000 visa applications in 2023, overtaking Algerians who filed 279,000 requests. The list of top ten visa applicants to France in 2023 consists of Moroccans, Algerians, Chinese, Indians, Saudis, Turks, Brits, Russians, Tunisians and Ivorians, Schengen.News reports.

According to data by Schengen Statistics, the most notable changes in top visa applicants in 2023 included the comeback of Chinese applicants, which pushed for Lebanese to miss the top ten list this year, and Indians to be ranked fourth.

France Was the Destination of 76% of Visa Applications Filed by Cote D’Ivoire Nationals

54,000 out of 71,000 visa requests that nationals of Cote d’Ivoire filed in 2023, were directed to France, indicating that the country received 76 per cent of all Schengen visa applications that Ivorians submitted.

Expect Ivorians, Moroccans and Algerians were also among the nationalities with an exceptionally high interest in applying for Schengen visas in France.

Nearly 60 per cent of all applications from Algeria were submitted to France, same as those from Morocco (52.4 per cent) as well as Tunisia (53.7 per cent).

Around 11.8 per cent of all applications that France received in 2023, were filed by Moroccans, while applications filed from these top ten countries represent 65 per cent of all applications received.

As per the volume of requests received, France received exceptionally more applications in 2023, compared to the previous year. From 1.9 million received in 2022, this number surged to 2.6 million in the following year, showing an increase of 73 per cent.

UK & Chinese Applicants Were More Likely to Obtain Schengen Visas From France in 2023

With an approval rate of 95.1 per cent, applicants from the United Kingdom were most likely to have their visa application approved out of all the top ten countries in this list.

More specifically, the total number of visa applications filed by the UK applicants in 2023 was 130,000 and 123,000 out of which were approved. Chinese nationals also were likely to obtain a Schengen visa from France with 92.9 per cent of 241,000 out of 271,000 visas being granted.

The approval rate was also high for other nationalities; 92 per cent for Saudis, 89 per cent for Russians, 84 per cent for Turks and around 83.3 per cent for Indians and Tunisians. However, Ivorians and Algerians had the lowest approval rate; 66.6 and 67.2 per cent, respectively.
