SKAL International Bangkok hosts Champions of Change Lunch

SKAL Bangkok’s Champions of Change Lunch honors charities with donations, inspiring speeches, and gourmet dining at Chatrium Residence Sathon.

BANGKOK, THAILAND – SKAL International Bangkok hosted the Champions of Change Lunch at the Chatrium Residence Sathon. The event, arranged by legendary GM, John Neutze, brought together leaders from the travel and tourism industry to honor and support three, much admired, charitable organizations in our community; the Mechai Viravaidya Foundation, the Good Shepherd Sisters and the Bangkok Community Help Foundation.

The luncheon featured an inspiring keynote speech by Khun Mechai Viravaidya titled Empowering Rural Villages: Schools as Platforms for Food Security and Income Generation. Khun Mechai is renowned for his significant contributions to the NGO sector and his impactful roles in the Thai government.

Event Highlights:

  • Charity Contributions: Donations of 30,000 THB were presented to three notable charities:
    • Mechai Viravaidya Foundation: This foundation focuses on rural development initiatives to empower the poor, including the Village Development Partnership, which addresses community empowerment, income generation, health, education, and environmental promotion.
    • Good Shepherd Sisters: Recognized for her service since 1965, Sr. Louise has created and manages numerous programs for women and children in need. In November 2020, Sr. Louise received the Irish Presidential Distinguished Service Award, recognizing her work in providing care and support for the poor and underprivileged.     • Bangkok Community Help Foundation: Founded by Greg Lange and Friso Poldervaart during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, this initiative began with providing hot meals to hunger-stricken residents in Klong Toei. It evolved into a robust community effort addressing various issues such as sanitation, housing, and food security. Today, it boasts a strong volunteer force of 647 individuals and has helped over 2.3 million people across multiple communities. Gourmet Dining: Guests enjoyed a meticulously curated menu by Executive Chef David Aparicio of Chatrium, featuring exquisite dishes such as Charcoal Grilled Seabass Fillet, Slow-Cooked Beef Cheek, and Homemade Fettuccine Butternut.
