You Can Obtain a Danish Residence & Work Permit If You Have One of These In-Demand Professions

Denmark’s Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) has updated its Positive Lists of occupations in which the country is experiencing a shortage of skilled and highly qualified workers.

The two lists – the Positive List for People with a Higher Education and the Positive List for skilled workers – have been effective since July 1, 2024.

Under the Positive List scheme, foreign non-EU workers who are offered a job that is part of the two lists are eligible to apply for a Danish residence and work permit and thus legally reside and work in the country for as long as the employment contract is valid, Schengen.News reports.

If you have been offered a job included in the Positive List, you can apply for a Danish residence and work permit based on this scheme.

The length of the permit issued under the scheme depends on the length of the employment contract. A work contract can, for example, be made for an initial period of four years and then be extended if the foreign worker remains in the same job.

As SIRI explains, the newly updated list of professions experiencing shortages includes a total of 202 job titles.

Of the total, 141 job titles fall under the Positive List for People with a Higher Education, whereas the remaining 61 job titles fall under the Positive List for Skilled Work.

While there are 141 job titles, the number of open positions is greater than that. For example, only in the social and healthcare sector Denmark needs up to 1,000 foreign workers. This means that multiple foreigners might be needed for the same position in different parts of Denmark.
