Vietnam’s Tourism sector records strong growth in first half of 2024

Vietnam welcomed 8.8 million international visitors in early 2024, up 58.4% from 2023, focusing on sustainable tourism development.

On July 8, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) held a meeting to summarize work in the first 6 months of 2024 and deploy key tasks in the last 6 months.

Accordingly, in January – June, the country welcomed more than 8.8 million international visitor arrivals; an increase of 58.4% over the same period in 2023 and an increase of 4.1% over the same period in 2019. There were 66.5 million domestic visitor trips. Tourism receipt was estimated at about VND 436.5 trillion.

VNAT has advised on the development of a number of legal documents to submit to the Prime Minister for promulgation such as the Official Dispatch No. 06/CĐ-TTg on improving the effectiveness of tourism statistics to evaluate, make policies and promote effective and sustainable development of the country’s tourism in the coming time; Directive 08/CT-TTg on comprehensive, fast and sustainable tourism development in the coming time; Decision No. 335/QĐ-TTg on completing the State Steering Committee for Tourism; Decision No. 509/QĐ-TTg approving master plan on tourism system for 2021-2030, vision to 2045.

In particular, the first half of 2024 witnessed an exciting atmosphere of promotion of Vietnam tourism abroad.

Vietnam Tourism Roadshow in Germany

VNAT organized national tourism promotion at the TRAVEX in Laos and the Australia – Vietnam Travel Symposium 2024 to enhance tourism cooperation.

VNAT also organizes promotion activities in some major target markets such as Vietnam – Korea Tourism Promotion and Cultural Cooperation Forum in Seoul with the attendance of Vietnam’s Prime Minister. Vietnam Tourism Roadshow in Moscow and St. Petersburg on the framework of Vietnam Cultural Days in Russia. Vietnam Tourism Roadshow in France, Germany, and Italy attracted the participation of a large number of delegates.

In the last 6 months of 2024, VNAT will focus on developing important state management documents and projects, including a project to establish a Vietnam Tourism Promotion Office in Laos; Project to establish Vietnam Tourism Promotion Offices abroad; Especially focusing on implementing master plan on tourism system for 2021-2030, vision to 2045.

At the same time, coordinating with other ministries to develop agricultural and rural tourism, railway tourism. Accelerate the application and sharing of specialized data to effectively and comprehensively deploy the Tourism Satellite Account statistical method in Vietnam. Coordinating with Quang Nam province to host UN Tourism’s International Conference on Rural Tourism.

Vietnam’s tourism sector will coordinately organize a high-level forum within the framework of ITE HCMC 2024; Coordinate to attend ASEAN-China, WTM 2024 in the UK, CITM China 2024; Coordinate to introduce Vietnam in markets: ASEAN, China, India, Australia; Tourism – Cinema promotion program in the United States. Organize to welcome FAM delegations from markets such as China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, ASEAN, Australia, Europe, America, and India.
