Greece Remains a Top Favorite Destination for Tourists in 2022
Greece remains one of the top favourite destinations for tourists worldwide, the general index of satisfaction has shown.
According to local media Ekathimerini, in the first 11 months of this year, Greece has accumulated a rate of 87 per cent regarding the satisfaction index, and Cyprus followed with 85.6 per cent, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
In the same period in 2019, the overall satisfaction index of Greece was 87.1 per cent, followed by Croatia in second place with a figure of 85.5 per cent.
Regardless of the fact that Greece may be ahead in the overall satisfaction index, on the other hand, in its individual categories, such as cleanliness, entertainment, or even food, it faces serious competition.
The data provided by the Institute of the Greek Confederation of Tourism (INSETE) have revealed that over 80 per cent of tourists in Greece indicate a positive travel experience.
Such data also show that, until November of this year, Greece ranks first in the overall hotel satisfaction index with 86.8 per cent. Croatia and Cyprus come second with 84.9 per cent, followed by Spain with 84.1 per cent, Italy with 83.1 per cent and Turkey with 80.5 per cent, while France was last with 78.4 per cent.
Moreover, in terms of hotel cleanliness, Cyprus ranks first with 91.8 per cent, followed by Italy with 91.7 per cent, while Greece is third with 90.6 per cent.
At the same time, in the food and drink category, Turkey led with a figure of 84.3 per cent; Cyprus came second with 84.2 per cent, and Greece third with 82.7 per cent.
In terms of location, Turkey ranks first with 90.4 per cent, with Cyprus at 90.3 per cent, and Greece in fifth place with 87.3 per cent.
The first in the value-for-money category is again Turkey with 86.8 per cent, followed by Cyprus with 86.6 per cent and Greece with 85.1 per cent.
Previously, the readers of the travel magazine Condé Nast chose Greece as the sixth-best travel destination this year. Named as the best holiday destination, Greece came in sixth place with a score of 89.97, just ahead of Denmark and the United Kingdom.
In October, Greece was also honoured with numerous awards at the European Gala Ceremony of the World Travel Awards 2022.
During this 29th edition held in Mallorca, Spain, dedicated to the tourism sector, Athens was considered the main destination of sustainable tourism in Europe.
