As reported by Portugal News, the values of Portugal’s reservations are above the average of its neighbouring countries. Specifically, Spain and Italy, ranking second and third, only minimally compare to Portugal regarding the number of reservations in 2023, considering the data from the past three years, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Data for June in Portugal show that there was a significant increase in bookings from foreign visitors compared to local tourism. At the same time, bookings from foreign visitors also saw a growth of 75.85 per cent, while local tourism bookings have increased by 24.15 per cent.

Based on SiteMinder data, hotel bookings by local tourists do not exceed 25 per cent in any month throughout the year. It also points out that the positive results in Portugal’s reservations are further strengthened by the arrival of the summer holidays.

As a result, within the last two weeks before the publication of the report, 49 per cent of the reservations made in Portugal were for June and July. This indicates a significant demand for accommodations during this period, likely driven by tourists seeking to enjoy their summer vacations in Portugal.

Furthermore, 23 per cent of the reservations correspond to August, suggesting a continued interest in visiting Portugal during the peak summer season. In addition, 14 per cent of the reservations are for September, indicating that even after the summer months, there is still a significant demand for bookings in Portugal.

As SiteMinder points out, the growth in the volume of hotel reservations in Portugal is happening alongside an increase in accommodation prices in the country. Thus, SiteMinder’s data shows that accommodation prices in Portugal have risen by an average of 17 per cent over the last four years.

Previously, the National Institute of Statistics of Portugal (INE) data revealed that the accommodation establishments in Portugal recorded a total of 2.7 million visitors and 6.8 million overnight stays in April of this year. These figures represent an increase of 16.5 per cent in the number of visitors and 13.8 per cent in the number of overnight stays compared to the same period last year.

Based on these data, the tourism sector in Portugal experienced significant growth in March 2023. There was a 30.7 per cent increase in the number of guests and a 26.8 per cent increase in overnight stays compared to the previous month.
