Integration of Sports Events with Tourism Initiatives to Highlight Vietnamese Culture – TravelDailyNews Asia

On 10th August 2023, in Ha Noi, a strategic dialogue was convened between Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Chairman of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), and representatives from the World Vovinam – Viet Vo Dao Federation (WVVF). The primary objective was to intensify the integration of sports competitions with tourism initiatives, emphasizing the rich cultural heritage of Vietnam.

Mr. Miesch Philippe, Chairman of the Council of Masters Vovinam French Federation, commented on his previous visits to Vietnam, expressing admiration for the nation’s rich culture. In the post-pandemic phase, there’s a notable surge in interest among the French, particularly athletes, to explore Vietnam concurrently with their competitive events. He further conveyed a desire for increased direct flight connectivity between France and Vietnam’s major destinations.

Ms. Geurrib Mai, President of the Vovinam French Federation, recounted her visit to the Quang Trung Museum in Binh Dinh Province. She proposed that Vietnamese attractions consider offering group discounts for large contingents and multilingual audio guides to enrich the experience for international tourists. WVVF is in the pipeline to organize events in Vietnam that blend competitive spirit with cultural immersion.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh provided an overview of Vietnam’s tourism trajectory. Since the resumption of its tourism activities on 15th March 2022, Vietnam has firmly established itself as a premier destination for both domestic and international tourists. The nation’s tourism potential is evident, having been recognized with multiple accolades including “Asia’s Leading Destination” and “World’s Best Golf Destination”, among others. The VNAT’s digital strategy, anchored by its website vietnam.travel, has been pivotal in promoting the diverse tourism facets of Vietnam, ranging from golf and cultural heritage to wellness and culinary experiences.

As for 2023, the Vietnamese tourism sector is on an accelerated path to recovery, with a target of hosting 8 million international tourists. Statistics from the first seven months already indicate a robust 6.6 million international arrivals. Additionally, global search trends have positioned Vietnam as a top destination.

In a move to boost tourism, the National Assembly of Vietnam has sanctioned the extension of e-visa durations from 30 to 90 days, with multi-entry provisions. Furthermore, the visa exemption duration has been extended from 15 to 45 days, with these policies set to be implemented from 15th August 2023. To cater to the evolving needs of tourists, there’s an emphasis on new product development, stronger transport linkages, and proactive participation in international tourism events.

Regarding aviation connectivity, plans are underway to initiate dialogues with Vietnamese airlines to establish direct flights between France and Vietnam’s primary cities. Restoration of flight routes to Russia is also on the horizon.
