Türkiye Wants Progress in Visa Liberalisation Talks With EU
Türkiye has said that the country wants to have progress in the visa liberalisation dialogue with the European Union amid restored relations.
Ankara has been working with the EU authorities to restore the relations since the beginning of summer, and now the country hopes to make progress in the dialogue as the country has the most prolonged accession process in history, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
The dialogue on visa liberalisation has been one of the priorities of Türkiye for years now, and the issue is expected to be discussed between the authorities of both parties in the upcoming days.
The EU has listed a total of 72 requirements that Türkiye has to fulfil as part of the visa liberalisation dialogue, and so far, the country has met 66 of these requirements.
As the Commission of the European Union explains, the Roadmap for Türkiye identifies areas where the country has to undertake legislative as well as administrative reforms with the aim of establishing a secure environment for visa-free travel.
“The Roadmap seeks to identify the legislation and all other measures that Turkey needs to adopt and implement and the requirements it needs to fulfil to achieve visa liberalisation,” the statement of the Commission reads.
The Roadmap addresses documents security, migration and border management, public order and security, and fundamental rights.
Moreover, it also includes requirements in the area of readmission of irregular migrants.
Since Türkiye still has work to do to meet all the requirements set by the EU, all of its citizens continue to be required to obtain a Schengen visa to be permitted entry into the bloc.
A Schengen visa is a short-term visa that permits everyone holding it to enter the Schengen Area and stay in it for up to 90 days within a six-month period for travel as well as business purposes.
When applying for a Schengen visa, Turks are required to submit several documents.
They need to submit the fully completed and signed visa application form, their Turkish passport, and two identity photographs.
Moreover, they must also submit proof of having booked a place to stay in the bloc, proof of having purchased travel health insurance, a roundtrip flight itinerary, proof of sufficient financial means, and proof of paid visa fee, among other things.
