Dubai: The Dubai Event Security Committee held its first meeting at the Armani Hotel in Downtown Dubai in preparation of the 2024 New Year’s celebrations.

The meeting was chaired by Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at the Dubai Police and Chairman of the Event Security Committee.

Al Ghaithi emphasised that the New Year’s celebration is one of the most significant events organised by Dubai, gaining immense global attention.

“The world’s spotlight now consistently turns to the Burj Khalifa, the primary event location, placing it at the forefront of international news alongside other globally recognised capitals,” he said.

He added that the Burj Khalifa dominates these news stories, heralding the onset of a new year with breath-taking displays of lights, fireworks, and laser shows witnessed by hundreds of thousands on the ground and millions of viewers worldwide.

“It underscores the magnitude of the event and the necessity of advanced, thorough preparation given the growing numbers and myriad celebration locations,” Al Ghaithi said.

Praising the Event Security Committee’s team, which grows increasingly cohesive and advanced each year, Al Ghaithi highlighted their expertise and experience in managing large-scale events. He urged the team to review past plans and refine them to align with the event’s evolution, stressing that the responsibility doesn’t rest solely on the shoulders of the Dubai Police but is a collective responsibility shared with all related entities.

“We all operate under one umbrella as a unified team,” Al Ghaithi said.

The meeting was also attended by Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic, Deputy Chairman of the Event Security Committee; Major General Rashid Khalifa Al Falasi, Acting Director of the General Department for Organisations Protective Security and Emergency (OPSE); Ahmad Thani Al Matrooshi, Executive Director of Emaar Properties; and Brigadier Obaid Mubarak Bin Yarouf, Deputy Director of OPSE for Organisations Security Affairs, along with representatives from various entities of the Dubai government.
