Following a sharp decline in the number of American visitors to Europe in 2021 due to the Coronavirus restrictions, the numbers rebounded remarkably in 2022, recording an impressive 600 per cent increase once the restrictions were lifted.

This positive trend persisted into 2023, too, with the European continent welcoming millions of US travellers ready to explore every part of it, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

While Europe has many must-visit destinations, VisaGuide.World has revealed that the top destinations for Americans in 2023 included iconic sites such as London, Paris, Dublin, Rome, Reykjavík, Edinburgh, Athens, Amsterdam, Lisbon, and Milan.

In addition to the above-mentioned, Americans were interested in visiting other destinations located in Europe too. However, similar to the previous years, these ten European cities remained the most popular ones.

American travellers who chose Europe as their travel destination stayed for a longer period on the continent. This is mainly because the length of flights pushed them to plan longer trips.

Around 80 per cent of American travellers who reached Europe in 2023 planned seven-day trips. On the other hand, a smaller percentage of them, around 11 per cent, planned a trip to Europe lasting eight days or more.

Europe continues to enchant travellers from the US with its diverse array of attractions, museums, and activities that meet different preferences.

According to Lum Kamishi, a project manager at VisaGuide.World, the popularity of European destinations is expected to soar throughout this year too, with 2024 seeing a high number of American visitors in Europe.

Since Europe has diverse destinations, the purpose of Americans travelling to Europe mainly varies based on their individual preferences as well as on the time of the year.

Warmer months draw enthusiasts to cultural capitals like Rome, Paris, and Athens, allowing them to explore the rich history, art, and culinary delights.

In contrast, during the colder months, American travellers mainly prefer to reach European destinations that have a festive atmosphere and those that offer winter activities like skiing.

All American travellers who plan on visiting the European continent are highly advised to purchase travel insurance. Travel insurance is a form of protection that is designed to cover some parts of the entire cost of trip cancellation, medical expenses, and travel delays, among others.
