According to data provided by VisitCzech Republic, the official website of the Czech National Tourist Board, the country marked a total of 1.3 million visitors in October, of which 51 per cent, or 672,000, came from abroad. In addition, compared to October 2019, there were eight per cent fewer hotel guests, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

As for the largest group of foreign tourists who visited the Czech Republic, they were Germans or as many as 192,000. Compared to 2019, this is a five per cent higher number of Germans visiting Czechia in October.

German tourists are followed next in the list by 61,000 Slovaks, which is an increase of +22 per cent compared to October 2019, and 44,000 Poles, an increase of +24 per cent.

In addition, 37,000 visitors were registered from America, which was a decrease of -34 per cent compared to October 2019, and 28,000 Britons, a decrease of 29 per cent compared to the same month of 2019.

At the same time, in the Czech Republic, the pre-pandemic level was not reached in terms of local guests, where 646,000 people were registered, which means that from year to year, it is a decrease of four per cent, while compared to October 2019, there was an increase of + 21 per cent.

“If we compare the occupancy of hotels in the Czech Republic this October with the situation before the Covid-19 pandemic, it becomes clear that although the number of foreign guests has increased by 66 per cent compared to last year, we are still not up the level of the pre-Covid figures. Compared to the tenth month of 2019, there were 25 per cent fewer guests from abroad,” the director of the Czech National Board of Tourism – Czech Tourism, Jan Herget, pointed out in this regard.

He also added that domestic tourism is still led by locals, compared to October three years ago it was 21 per cent more this year.

According to him, the promotion of foreign tourist arrivals this year and next year will be helped by the online winter campaign, which will be developed in nine foreign markets.

Previously, the Statistics Office of the Czech Republic (OSHC) revealed that over 2.8 million visitors were accommodated in hotels and hostels in the Czech Republic in the first quarter of this year.

Based on these data, the Czech Republic has seen a significant increase of about ten times the number of visitors compared to the figures for the same period of the previous year.
