Finland: 30% of People Aged 16 to 89 Have Bought Travel Tickets in Last Three Months

A total of 30 per cent of persons aged 16 to 89 have bought travel tickets in the past three months in Finland, according to the figures provided by Statistics Finland.

In all, 24 per cent of persons aged 16 to 89 had ordered food portions online directly from restaurants or through a courier service, and 14 per cent had ordered food from stores during the past three months,” the statement reads.

In addition, the report notes that about 58 per cent of people aged 16 to 89 had bought goods or services online in the last three months.

The same noted that a total of 11 per cent of those aged 16 to 89 had used home lighting, as well as heating and other similar systems that can not be connected to the internet. At the same time, 93 per cent of the population between the age of 16 and 89 use the internet.

In 2020, the number of international tourists decreased notably due to the travel restrictions and other bans imposed to contain the spread of coronavirus and its new variants. The figures provided previously by Statistics Finland revealed that last year there were registered fewer overnight stays by international visitors. The same source has revealed that the number of nights spent by travellers in Baltic countries declined notably, or more specifically, by nine per cent, from 2.2 million registered in 2020 to a little over two million in the next year.

The statement noted that a total of 1.78 million overnights were recorded by resident travellers as well as 0.37 million overnight stays for travellers from other countries in June 2022. It has also been emphasised that the number of nights spent by resident travellers was up by eight per cent compared to June 2021 figures.

According to authorities in Finland, the number of overnight stays registered by travellers from other countries was higher compared to the figures for the same period last year.

The same source revealed that the citizens from the United Kingdom, as well as those from Germany, accounted for the top two countries of origin for tourists, followed by those from Sweden.

In addition, the number of Britons spending nights in accommodation spots in Finland surged by 59 per cent, from 168,341 registered in 2020 to a total of 268,282.
