Czechia Launches New Digital Nomad Programme for Foreign Highly Skilled Workers
The Czech Republic has approved a new digital noman programme for highly skilled workers from other countries.
Announcing the news, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that in line with the newly approved programme, digital nomads will be able to apply for a residence permit in the Czech Republic, permitting them to reside in the country, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
“The government approved two new economic migration programs. One is aimed at a group of highly qualified and top IT workers – so-called digital nomads, who will thus get the opportunity to apply for a residence permit in the Czech Republic,” the statement of the Ministry reads.
Commenting on the programme’s approval, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Jozef Síkela, said that none of the country’s existing economic migration programmes covers digital nomads, stressing that this is an important move.
Moreover, he said that by launching this new programme, the Czech Republic’s authorities want to make the country an appealing destination for digital nomads.
“Among other things, we want to create an interesting environment for the operation and development of foreign technology teams in the Czech Republic, which is why we are coming up with a new programme that targets digital nomads in particular,” Minister Síkela stated.
Nonetheless, it has been stressed that for now, the programme will be limited to certain foreign citizens.
As the Ministry explains, under the newly launched programme, only citizens of Australia, Japan, Canada, South Korea, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, the United States, and Taiwan will be allowed to apply for residence permits to work remotely from the Czech Republic.
Those who will participate in the programme will be able to apply for a residence permit at the Czech Republic’s embassies abroad.
As highlighted, the applications for residence permits submitted by digital nomads wishing to reside in the Czech Republic will be processed within a period of 45 days.
“Programme participants and their family members will have the possibility to apply for a residence permit at the embassies of the Czech Republic abroad. The application will be processed within 45 days from the date of submission,” the statement of the Ministry reads.
In addition to the above-mentioned, Czechia has also approved a labour migration pilot project for Indonesians.
As explained, the Czech Republic’s authorities want to allow around 300 students from selected Indonesian polytechnic schools to work in the country for up to two years in different sectors facing shortages.
