104.8 Million Overnight Stays Were Registered in Croatia Last Year
A total of 18.9 million passengers from other countries visited Croatia last year, accounting for 104.8 million overnight stays.
Such figures have been provided by Croatia’s National Tourist Board, while the same revealed that last year was marked a significant increase in number of overnight stays compared to 2021’s figures, as well as 96 per cent of nights registered in 2019, before the spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
The same source shows that income from international visitors to Croatia in the first nine months of last year reached €11.6 billion, or up by 23 per cent compared to pre-pandemic levels.
In addition, tourist arrivals surged by 37 per cent in 2022, while overnight stays last year also marked a notable increase, or 25 per cent compared to the figures of 2021, based on the data provided by the eVisitor as well as eCrew systems.
It has been reported that the majority tourist turnover was reached by international visitors, with a total of 92.3 million overnight stays, followed by domestic tourists, with 12.5 million overnight stays.
According to a statement provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Croatia, tourist arrivals are at 91 per cent while overnight stays are at 96 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.
The highest number of overnight stays registered in Croatia last year by county were as following:
- Istria – 5 million
- Split-Dalmatia County – 19.5 million
- Primorje-Gorski Kotar County -18.3 million
- Zadar County – 14.9 million
- Dubrovnik-Neretva County – 8 million
- Šibenik-Knin County – 6.8 million overnight stays
According to Croatia’s National Tourist Board, Rovinj has again been considered number one destination, with a total of 4.2 million overnight stays, followed by Dubrovnik with a total of 3.8 million, Poreč with 3.4 million overnight stays, Split with 3.1 million as well as Medulin with 3 million.
As for international tourists, citizens of Germany accounted for the most nights, or 24.9 million followed by citizens from:
- Slovenia -10.1 million
- Austria – 8.2 million
- Poland – 6.7 million
- Czech Republic – 6 million
- Italy – 4.2 million
- The United Kingdom – 3.7 million
- Slovakia – 3.3 million
- The Netherlands – 3.3 million nights
As for the type of accommodation, the majority of overnight stays were registered in household facilities, or a total of 39.4 million, followed by 22.9 million in hotels, as well as 20.8 million registered in campsites.
Croatia has often been considered among most favourite destinations for foreign citizens.
