Upcoming September Sees Spain’s International Flight Bookings Approach 10.7 Million

Seat reservations for international flights to Spain during September are approaching 10.7 million, the latest report from the Spanish Institute of Tourism, Turespaña, reveals.

The same source noted that this figure marks a 10.1 per cent year-on-year increase compared to September 2022, which had 9.7 million bookings, and September 2019, which saw 10.9 million seats booked, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

In this regard, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, emphasised that Spain stands as one of the most popular destinations and, at the same time, stressed that it is clear that this year is about to become a monumental year for our tourism industry.

“Spain is a quality destination, a diversified and seasonally adjusted destination that is increasingly desired by international travellers from all over the world. There is no doubt that 2023 is going to be a historic year for our tourism, and the data for the last quarter of the year continue with a fantastic trend,” the head of Tourism also added.

Based on the data provided by Turespaña, among the countries that experienced the highest increase in bookings to Spain from year to year for September are Poland, the Czech Republic, and Portugal.

Tourists from Poland reserved 33 per cent more seats to Spain for the upcoming month than in September last year. At the same time, tourists from the Czech Republic reserved 27.3 per cent more seats compared to the same month of 2022, and tourists from Portugal reserved 23 per cent more seats.

Moreover, a significant increase of 11.6 per cent from year to year was also noted in the reserved seats from the United States, which stands as the most important non-European market after Mexico (15.8 per cent).

Regarding the percentage of seats by country, the United Kingdom is in first place with a total of 23.4 per cent of reserved places. Meanwhile, Germany and Italy lag behind, securing 14.6 per cent and 9.2 per cent seats, respectively.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), in collaboration with ENAIRE, the entity in charge of overseeing national air navigation, accomplished an extraordinary achievement. A total of 223,107 extraordinary flight operations were successfully carried out, marking a historical moment in the field of Spanish aviation.

In this regard, the Spanish government said that this achievement corresponds to a daily average of 7,197 flights, a figure that highlights the sustained and substantial activity that contributed to the historic moment in Spanish aviation.
